Brolo is a seaside village in the north cost of Sicily. Giusy lived here till she turned 18.
The nearest airport by airdistance is Reggio Calabria, followed by Catania and Palermo. Since you will not take an helicopter to get there, we suggest that you fly to Catania or to Palermo.
From there, you can use an amazing (old) highway to reach Brolo in around 2 hours by car and three hours by public transportation.
If you land in Catania
by car: take the A18 towards Messina and then the A20 towards Palermo. Highway exit is Brolo
by public transport : take a red bus branded SAIS to Messina Central station. You can buy the tickets outside the airport (exit from the right side). Once arrived in Messina central station take a regional train to Brolo. You can purchase the ticket at the Newspaper stand inside the Station. Here some references.

If you land in Palermo
by car: take the A29 towards Palermo and then the A20 towards Messina. Highway exit is Brolo.
by public transport: take either the metro or a bus Prestia & Comandè to the Palermo central station.Tickets at the metro station for the train, online or in front at the bus stop for the bus. From the station, you can take a train towards Messina, which also stops in Brolo. You can purchase the tickets either at the train counter or at the machines in front of the counters. Please always look at your luggage and bags. Pickpocketing can happen.

If you decide to rent a car, we highly recommend to choose Hertz, Avis, Budget, Europcar or Sixt and avoid the others. Be aware that depending on the arrival time, in Summer the queue to get the car can be over one hour.
If you have any doubts if Brolo deserves the travel. Here a picture taken last December.
